‘Fishtail’ and ‘The Disciple’ take the legends’ title

15th March 2010

The Sieders Racing team has come away from the first round of the 2010 Yokohama V8 Ute Series with the Championship lead, two race wins, five podiums and a pole position at the Adelaide Parklands circuit this weekend.

Campaigning three entries this year, the Andrew “Fishtail” Fisher / Rick “The Disciple” Bates win in the Legends’ Exhibition Co-Driver today put the duo in second place for the 10th Anniversary Round, whilst David “Sideways” Sieders has taken both the Championship lead as well as third place overall with teammate Rod “Rocket” Barrett for the weekend.

“What a week,” said Team Manager, Luke Sieders, “we only tested two cars last week, as Dave’s [Sieders] ute didn’t arrive until the start of this week, but we’ve had a taste of the podium from all three combinations this weekend.” In true V8 Ute carnage, today’s exhibition race was marred by two safety car interventions, with the Fisher/Bates combination taking the chequered flag under yellow racing conditions, the Dunn/Dunn car crossed the line in fourth and the Sieders/Barrett pairing came eighth.

“You never like to have the races not under green conditions, as it takes away the competition” said Sieders, “however, today it has worked in our favour and we’ve come away with another win”. With the Stewards imposing a penalty on the Layton Crambrook / Mal Rose entry for overtaking under yellow conditions in the race today, the Sieders Racing father/son duo of Colin and Ben Dunn were promoted to third place in the final race.

“Three races this weekend, and we’ve come away with three race podiums, including two race wins, two more for the round, and Dave’s come away with the maximum Series points available,” said Sieders, “there’s not too many more ways you could want to start a season”. Under the special event regulations, the winners for the 10th Anniversary Legends’ Round were determined by a combination of the regular points structure across the three races, however, the Series points only applied to the Series Drivers’ standalone qualifying and race events.

“All six drivers were up on the podium today, and we’ll be working hard to keep the Series Regulars up there all year,” said Sieders, “if they keep going the way they have been, some one-two-threes don’t sound out of the question”.
