Bridger re signs with Litespeed

12th January 2010

FOR 2010 F3 TITLE BID

The 2008 British F3 National Class Champion, Jay Bridger, is to rejoin the Litespeed F3 team for an all-out assault on the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series in the coming season, it is announced today. The Kent-based 22-year-old will drive a Volkswagen-powered Dallara chassis.

It will be Bridger's third season in Europe's most competitive single-seater championship, and Jay plans to work hard to impress Litespeed F3, which recently announced a talent-spotting affiliation with the reborn Lotus F1 team.

"Litespeed F3 helped me through a difficult season in 2009 and I am looking forward to demonstrating to both Litespeed and to my new sponsors, H2 Industries, just how competitive I can be," said Bridger. "I have unfinished business in British F3 and the package that Litespeed F3 has put together for 2010 is very strong. I can't wait for the season to start."

"Jay will be in his third year of F3," says Litespeed F3 director of engineering Steve Kenchington, "and his previous experience will be an immense benefit in the new-format race weekends. The three races each weekend will demand consistency, pace and the skills of a proven F3 race winner. I am sure Jay will deliver both to become a strong championship contender."

"This is the first of our driver announcements," adds managing director Nino Judge, "and we are very pleased to continue our relationship with Jay. The support from Lotus F1 has been remarkable, and my role as head of European driver development at Lotus has enabled Litespeed F3 to provide the possibility of a direct route into F1 for up-and-coming drivers. It would be fantastic if Jay could be the first Litespeed F3 graduate."

Bridger's competitive career began at the age of nine in karts. After a season in BRDC single-seaters in 2005 he moved on to Formula Ford, in which he was Festival runner-up in 2006 and fifth in the British championship the following season.

Five class wins in a Fluid-prepared Dallara netted him the British F3 National title in 2008, and the following season he took his maiden steps in the championship's International class with a Litespeed F3-prepared Mygale chassis.

The Cooper Tires British F3 International Series gets underway at Easter (3 April) at Oulton Park. Highlights of the 30-race season include twin visits to the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit and races at the European Grand Prix tracks of Magny-Cours, Hockenheim and Spa-Francorchamps, as well as a return to Britain's fastest track, Thruxton.

British F3 is sponsored by US tyre manufacturer Cooper Tire and is further supported by Sunoco Racing Fuels, Anglo American Oil Company and Mirror.co.uk
