Bumper entry expected for Pirelli backed GT Cup
15th August 2012
The Pirelli-backed GT Cup championship will welcome no less than 19 entries for the sixth round of the highly competitive series that is set to take place at Brands Hatch GP at the weekend (18-19 August).
Aberdeens Jim Geddie took a resounding double victory at Oulton Park last month thanks to his efforts behind the wheel of a spectacular McLaren MP4-12c GT3. The experienced Scotsman will return to the championship next week where he will be vying for his second win of the season.
Also making an appearance at the weekend will be Wiltshire-based driver Nigel Mustill in a Wessex Vehicle Services-sponsored Audi R8 LMS. A former United Autosports Team car, this spectacular vehicle had previously competed in the British GT and European GT Championships.
Saturdays action will consist of one qualifying session followed by one sprint race and Sunday will consist of two further races. Italian tyre firm Pirelli will be once again on hand to supply slick tyres in DM and DH compounds, plus the WS and WH wet weather tyres.
Late entries are welcome until Thursday 16 August but entries made later than one week prior may not be included in the official published entry list in the race programme.
Pirelli Tyre UK operations manager, Matthew Corby, said: With 19 cars expected on the grid at Brands Hatch GP next weekend, the sixth round of the GT Cup Championship is sure to provide some thrilling action. It is fantastic to hear that both the McLaren and the Audi R8 will also be back in action, the series really does host some of the most spectacular racecars in British racing. As the championships official tyre supplier, Pirelli will be at Brands Hatch to assist the teams and answer any queries. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
Bute Motorsport managing director, Marc Haynes, commented: We have been privileged to visit the Brands Hatch GP circuit every year since the inaugural year of the GT Cup in 2008 and it always proves a popular and exciting event. The quality of the grid bodes well for the future of the championship.
The GT Cup Championship will be broadcast on Motors TV and updates from all the races can be found on the official website: www.gtcup.co.uk
