Capacity entry for Porsche Carrera Cup GB
12th March 2010
Following unprecedented competitor demand, the 2010 Porsche Carrera Cup GB is now full, with a 28-car entry confirmed for the first time in the history of the category.
The Carrera Cup GB set a new grid record at Brands Hatch last year when a 27-car field lined up for the deciding races of the season. That marker should be bettered when the 2010 season gets under way at Thruxton, Hampshire, on April 3/4.
"This is an incredible situation for the Carrera Cup GB," said Porsche Cars GB Managing Director, Andy Goss. "The entries for the 2010 season are impressive. The drivers and teams have worked very hard to get to this stage and we are set for the best season ever. I'm particularly pleased that the field is a great mix of established competitors and an influx of newcomers."
One of the largest teams on the grid will be the six-car squad from Motorbase Performance, based near Tonbridge, Kent, and team boss David Bartrum says that the capacity grid is testimony to the performance of the 911 GT3 Cup race cars, the brand appeal of racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship and not least the commitment of Porsche Cars GB.
"I said a year ago that the Carrera Cup was buzzing and it's now off the scale," said Bartrum. "It proves that the work of Porsche Cars GB and the Carrera Cup team has really paid dividends. It's really good to see a sell-out grid in the current climate."
Now entering its eighth season, the 2010 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship comprises a superb 20-race programme alongside the MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). Using the Carrera Cup format that is established in many countries around the world, the Championship sees drivers racing identical versions of the 420bhp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car. And, with minimal modifications permitted to the cars, it is only the drivers’ skill, talent and experience that make the decisive difference in the fight for victory, points and prize money. Spectacular action is always a feature of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and with high calibre drivers taking part, close racing between the cars is guaranteed.
The prize fund of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB is one of the largest in national motorsport and a purse in excess of £150,000 will be shared across the grid. In addition, the overall 2010 Porsche Carrera Cup Champion will also be presented with a new Porsche 911 Carrera, on loan for twelve months following their victory.
For the 2010 Championship, the field has been capped at 28 cars to ensure that all registered contenders can start each of the races. However, the Championship organisers have now opened a reserve list in case any slots become available. It is also possible that spaces at specific race meetings may become open and these will be offered to any teams or drivers on the waiting list.
The full Carrera Cup GB entry list will be unveiled at the Championship's pre-season test and media day at Silverstone on Wednesday 17 March.
