Championship Leader Morris Aiming For Thruxton Formula Renault BARC Glory

9th June 2012

Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship leader Seb Morris is hoping to build on his 12 point cushion at the top of the driver standings when the 2012 season resumes at the fastest track on the calendar, Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire, next Sunday, 17th June.

Unbeaten in qualifying so far with five pole positions from five, the 16-year-old has also taken three outstanding race victories and two further top five finishes to mark a hugely impressive start to his debut season in single-seaters.

Added to that, the Marford-based MSA Academy youngster has also posted the fastest race lap on two occasions and goes into next weekend’s event at Thruxton knowing he has a great opportunity to once again challenge for wins at the wheel of his Fortec Motorsports FR 2.0 car.

“It’s all going well for us so far, it was nice to come away from Rockingham with the two results we’d hoped for before the weekend so hopefully we can do the same again at Thruxton”, said Seb, “I’ve gone well there in the past in Ginetta Junior, we’ve had strong results there and been quick, so the plan is to go out and keep doing what we have been.”

For the first time this season, the third race meeting of the campaign will take place entirely on one day rather than spread across the full weekend – meaning a total of four track sessions for the series competitors next Sunday.

With no testing ahead of the event, it will be hugely important for the Ginetta Ambassador to get up to speed as quickly as possible during the 15-minute practice. Just as essential though will be the need to avoid any on-track incidents with the schedule being so incredibly tight.

“It’s going to be a different race meeting this time, with everything packed into one day – qualifying and both races – it’ll be very busy”, added Seb, “We’ve only got one short practice before qualifying as well so it’ll be vital to adapt as quickly as possible. I’m confident we can do well though, the team has given me a fantastic car all year and there’s no reason that should be any different at Thruxton.”

Seb’s car racing debut came at ultra-fast Thruxton in the Ginetta Junior Championship in April 2010 where, aged just 14, he recorded a best finish of 12th place to mark himself out as an impressive young prospect. Fast forward to last season, The King’s School, Chester pupil delivered a race win and second place finish at the 2.35-mile track on his way to a famous championship victory.

Following a brief 15-minute practice session on Sunday, 17th June, qualifying for rounds six and seven of the 2012 Protyre Formula Renault BARC season will get underway at 12.20 with race one starting at 14.45 and race two rounding out the day’s action at 17.25.
