De Jong and Liiv Sign Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Deals

Leading Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 team MP Motorsport will head into the 2010 season benefiting from fantastic continuity after retaining the services of exciting Dutch racer Daniël de Jong and promising Estonian driver Karl-Oscar Liiv.

Westmaas-based De Jong competed in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Northern European Cup Formula Renault 2.0 for MP Motorsport last year, securing two impressive podium finishes in the NEC at Spa-Francorchamps and the Nürburgring. The 17-year-old’s aim for the coming season is to become a consistent front-running threat against the toughest competition in Europe.

Liiv switched teams to MP Motorsport midway through the 2009 NEC campaign and went on to conclude the championship with the Dutch squad while also embarking on his race debut in the Eurocup series. Making good steps forward since joining MP Motorsport, the 16-year-old, who comes from Tallinn in Estonia, is focused on improving yet further throughout 2010.

Commenting on their squad’s first two driver signings, team managers Dick van der Wilt and Sander Dorsman said: “We are, of course, very happy indeed to have signed deals with both Daniël and Karl-Oscar. Not only is it fantastic for MP Motorsport to have filled two of our three available seats well ahead of the start of the season, it’s great to have the consistency of working again with two promising drivers we already know.

“We were one of the first teams to take delivery of the brand new 2010 Formula Renault 2.0 car and have since received our second car as well. Further to that, we’ve already conducted a successful shakedown at Motorland Aragon so we’re in very good shape. The year has started well for us.”

In addition to De Jong and Liiv’s participation in the 2010 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Championship, both drivers will also compete in two selected NEC races this year – the maximum now permitted by Renault Sport for drivers already racing in the headline pan-European category.

The first collective test of the 2010 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 season will take place at Valencia in Spain on Monday, 22nd February, and Tuesday, 23rd February, with the opening round of the season getting underway over the weekend 17th/18th April at the Spanish Motorland Aragon facility.
