26th June 2012

COLOMBIAN OSCAR TUNJO SEIZES HIS FIRST FORMULA RENAULT 2.0 ALPS WIN IN SPA

First win in Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS for the 16 y/o Oscar Tunjo, on the Spa-Francorchamps track. The Tech1 Racing driver is the fourth different winner in the four 2012 rounds held so far. Pole, first place and fastest lap for the young Colombian that now aims the Championship reserved to the two liters single seaters where Norman Nato has still a consistent lead. Thanks to a second overall the Frenchman managed to open the gap from Paul-Loup Chatin, twice on podium this weekend and now 15 points behind the leader (14 less than what was the gap before this Belgian venue).

Plenty of bad luck for Daniil Kvyat, the Race 1 winner, immediately forced to the back of the group after an early contact that damaged his front wing, and tenth overall. Good racing from the Brazilians. Felipe Fraga, fourth, managed to closely chase the top drivers, followed by Guilherme Silva capable in Race 1 of an excellent third overall. Masterpiece for Gabriel Casagrande, Mark Burdett Motorsport driver, who made an astonishing recover from 21st up to ninth, just behind William Vermont and the two Koiranen Motorsport drivers  Stefan Wackerbauer and Esteban Ocon. Brilliant race also from Stefano De Val 12th overall with an exciting last half of the race, just behind the driver from Andorra Alex Loan.

THE REPORT. Pole for Tunjo who is able to defend his leadership only for a couple of bends before being passed by Chatin. Third is Nato, chased by Silva while Kvyat is seventh with the front wing damaged. At lap two new changes: Fraga is third, just ahead of Nato and Silva. Kujala crashes at Source and has the front nose damaged, Albogado ends up in the grave. At lap five Tunjo is back in front of Chatin and, just one lap after, Nato passes Fraga and edges third. A light drizzle affects the highest part of the track and Ocon overtakes Vermont for seventh. Casagrande keeps pushing hard and almost under the chequered flag slips by Kvyat reaching ninth. All attention is for the top position with an almost fotofinish race with Tunjo ahead and Nato capable of reaching second in front of Chatin.

Next round is now scheduled for the first weekend of September on the Austrian circuit near Zeltweg, that will host the fifth out of seven 2012 Championship rounds.
