GP2 Super Nova Race 2
13th September 2005
ROUND 11, RACE 2 - SPA, BELGIUM
It was a safety car start for the 18-lap race in Belgium on Sunday with Super Nova’s Adam Carroll out at the front. Poor visibility and laying water on the track meant this was going to be an event to be driven with skill and caution. Adam Carroll proved to do just this leading the 24 cars, by up to 2.5 seconds a lap from the very start.
Giorgio Pantano showed that he had the speed with a best lap of 2:17.24, climbing the line up from his start position of 17th to 10th. Unfortunately however on the 10th lap the race was suspended and not resumed, due to accident debris at the top of Eau Rouge. Therefore Giorgio classified in 10th and Adam Carroll in a well deserved first place.
Some 16seconds behind Adam was Racing Engineering’s Garcia to take second place today, followed by Isport’s American driver Scott Speed.
Giorgio Pantano 2: 17 249(P10)
“It was a very tough race today with the wet weather conditions as well as starting from 17th. It was difficult to see in front and overtake because of the poor visibility. The car felt really good though and after the fourth lap, and it started clearing I managed to move up several places. We have a very good car, which was proved that today with my team mates win!”
Adam Carroll 2:14.936 (P1)
“The conditions were very wet, the car was fantastic today and guys done a great job. It was unfortunate the race was stopped early and we were not able to finish the race under the chequered flag. But it was still a great result for the team – a big thanks to the guys! ”
Team Principal – David Sears
“What a fantastic result for the Super Nova team today, with Adam winning the wet race in dominant style! In fact Adam was so fast that he was between 2 and 2.5 seconds quicker than the other drivers. The race was suspended on lap 10 due to accident debris on the track, which could not be cleared in time. Unfortunately the race will only count half points, because it did not reach 75%.
Giorgio Pantano drove a storming race from 17th on the grid, to 10th at the flag. Giorgio was sure he could have finished in the top 6 if the race had continued.
Super Nova team are looking forward to the last race weekend of the championship season in Bahrain”
