GP2 Unlucky race for Alvaro Parente
21st June 2009
Alvaro Parente wasn’t lucky in the GP2 race held today at Silverstone, retiring after a touch from other driver in the first corner.
With a good a car on his hands and starting from third, the Portuguese driver had the conditions to fight for the first place in today’s race. Though, the start didn’t go well for him and when he arrived to Copse, in the middle of two cars, he was touched by another driver and had to retired in the pits with a broken wishbone. “I reacted well to the lights, but the track didn’t have too much grip in that point and I started slowly. I was in the middle of di Grassi and Petrov when we arrived to the first corner; I tried to give space to everybody, but the Russian driver turned in as no one was in his inside and he touched in my left-front wheel”, said the Ocean Racing Technology driver, adding: “our car was very well balanced and I think that we could fight for the win, which makes everything even more frustrating.
Though he has a car capable of fighting for the top positions, tomorrow, the young driver supported by Soccerade, Delta, TMN, Aurora Group, Geotur and Cision will start from the twenty-fourth position of the grid, which makes his work very hard. Nevertheless, he will fight with all his strengths to do a good recover. “Tomorrow, I’ll have another hard race and, once again, I’ll give my best to get a good result. However, the race is very short and everybody will have new tires, which will make harder to gain places. This is how races are, I’ve to forget what happened today and try to achieve a good result”, underlined the twenty-four years old driver.
