Le Mans ’88 winners reunite for JD Classics Jubilee Breakfast Morning

9th June 2012

JD Classics commemorated Jubilee weekend by hosting the second of its three Breakfast Mornings planned for 2012.

Following on from the successful inaugural event in March, JD Classics used its second Breakfast Morning of the year to celebrate the official opening of two new showrooms at its headquarters in Maldon, Essex.

To mark the occasion, JD Classics invited the 1988 Le Mans winning Jaguar team comprising Johnny Dumfries, Andy Wallace and Jan Lammers as special guests. It was the first time since 1988 that the Jaguar XJR-9LM and its winning trio have been reunited.

The continuing growth of the classic car market was in evidence for all to see, as more than 600 motoring enthusiasts made their way through the doors of JD Classics for a unique question and answer session with the Le Mans winners. Attendees were also able to get a glimpse of the work and craftsmanship that goes into producing concours winning road cars and race-ready historic cars with which JD Classics is synonymous.

Derek Hood, Managing Director, JD Classics commented: “We were very fortunate to have one of Jaguar’s most iconic figures, former Test Driver Norman Dewis join us at the last Breakfast Morning. We were equally lucky to be able to host the 1988 Le Mans-winning Jaguar team – Johnny Dumfries, Andy Wallace and Jan Lammers – and their victorious XJR-9LM car here at JD Classics on Sunday. It was very pleasing to see motoring enthusiasts turning up in such large numbers to see our two new showrooms and to listen to what Johnny, Andy and Jan had to say. I am already looking forward to welcoming classic car fans to our next breakfast in the autumn.”

Johnny Dumfries, 1988 Le Mans winner and former F1 driver, commented: “It was fantastic to reunite with Andy and Jan and see the XJR-9LM once again; that brought back a lot of memories for us all! To be able to tell our stories to such a passionate motoring audience was fantastic. To be able to do this at the headquarters of JD Classics, which is now so synonymous with classic car success, was fantastic.”

JD Classics has enjoyed a successful beginning to the 2012 historic racing season on track. In last month’s Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, Alex Buncombe secured a victory in a JD Classics C-Type in the Serie C Pre-1953 Sports Prototypes category. This success was swiftly followed by a strong following at the iconic Italian rally, the Mille Miglia, in which JD Classics entered no fewer than 11 cars.
