MSA Congratulates George Russell for back to back European KF3 titles

The Motor Sports Association (MSA) wishes to congratulate British karter George Russell on the unprecedented feat of winning the CIK-FIA European KF3 Championship two years in a row.

Russell sealed the 2012 title with victories in both points-paying finals in the second and last championship round at Lincolnshires PF International on Sunday (22 July). Having won one final in the first round at Varennes in France, and with each drivers poorest result being discounted, Russell achieved a maximum possible 75 points, 27 more than his nearest rival. The result followed his 2011 title success at Zuera in Spain.

Russell is also contesting this years CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy, a three-round world championship for 13- to 15-year-old karters, having been nominated by the MSA to be one of the UKs two representatives. Russell won the first final in the opening round at Braga in Portugal earlier this month with second UK representative Alex Gill second and resumes his title challenge in round two at Angerville, France, on 26 August.

Russell, aged 14 from Wisbech in Cambridgeshire, said: "It feels amazing to win the title again, and I'm really happy to have done it at home in England too. Now we have to go on to try and win the KF3 World Cup at Zuera in Spain in September we have an event there (in the WSK Euro Series) next month where we can try to get some testing and get ourselves ready."

MSA Chief Executive, Colin Hilton, said: British motor sport has a long history of producing some of the best karters in the world and it is encouraging to see that tradition continue, with promising young talents like George shining on the international stage. It was a fabulous event at PFI this weekend and on behalf of the MSA I would like to congratulate not only George but also the organisers, officials and all the British karters who took part.
