MSA statement regarding National Kart Championships

23rd June 2012

As announced on Wednesday, the Motor Sports Association (MSA) has this week launched a tender process for the organisation and promotion of the MSA British Kart, Junior Kart and Cadet Kart Championships from 1 January 2013.  Further tenders will follow for the MSA British Superkart Championship and Grand Prix titles.

At the recent meeting of Motor Sports Council on 12th June 2012, the revised regulations regarding the restructure of Karting Championships were approved. Subsequently, the MSA would like to confirm that a similar tender process for the organisation and promotion of all other National Kart Championships, originally anticipated to be held this year, has been delayed until 2013. As a result, the Association of British Kart Clubs (ABkC) have agreed to extend their existing contracts and arrangements relating to National Kart Championships for a further year.

Rob Jones, MSA General Secretary and Chairman of Kart Committee, said:

“Directly resulting from the Karting Green Paper, there is a great deal of change going on within karting at the moment, particularly the establishment of a new structure, preparations for the new cadet engine and the tender process for the MSA British titles, not to mention the important initiatives to address other issues, such as rising costs. On reflection, and in discussion with the ABkC, we just felt that it would be more pragmatic to spread some of these huge projects over the next 12 months, rather than rush into something at this stage.”
