Mercedes Benz remains on the road to success

21st May 2012

Brands Hatch/UK, May 20th, 2012 – Mercedes-Benz driver Gary Paffett currently is the man to beat in the DTM. With a dominant lights-to-flag win, the Brit was also victorious in his home round at Brands Hatch on Sunday and is leading in the drivers’ standings of the most popular international touring car series with two wins and a second place. Bruno Spengler remains his fiercest rival. At the tradition-steeped track in the south of Great Britain, the BMW driver crossed the finish line in second place and is second in the DTM standings, 25 points down on Paffet. Mike Rockenfeller was the best-placed Audi driver in third. Thus, the 28-year old scored his best result of the season to date, just like reigning DTM champion Martin Tomczyk (BMW). At the 1.929 kilometres long track, the shortest circuit on the DTM schedule, the Hankook competition tyres showed a perfect performance. At the twisty track, the Ventus Race provided massive traction and convinced with a high level of consistency. Therefore, all drivers were able to drive very long and fast stints, without the tyres wearing out. The many stones, thrown onto the track by the cars, were dealt with by the surface of the Hankook competition tyres without any problems, just like the kerbstones.
