Mono wins Supercar class at Cholmondeley Pageant of Power
26th June 2012
Victory in first competitive event the latest of many accolades
Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) of Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, the creator of the world’s first road-legal, single-seater production car, has had much to celebrate since unveiling its ‘Mono’ a year ago, but victory at last weekend’s (June 15/16/17) Cholmondeley Pageant of Power was perhaps the embryonic British car manufacturer’s sweetest achievement to date.
Explained BAC Director Neill Briggs: “They say the first win is often the most satisfying, and this was Mono’s inaugural competitive outing. Moreover, not only did it win the Supercar class outright, but achieved the second fastest car time of all, giving best only to the non-roadgoing supercharged Caterham SP/300.R prototype racing car running on slick tyres. Our car was shod with street legal Kumho V70A tyres and driven to and from the meeting under its own power, making the result even more impressive.
“The track conditions were tricky for much of the weekend, but our chosen driver – Blancpain Endurance Series racer Duncan Tappy – took to the Mono like a duck to water. We will definitely be back to challenge for outright victory next year, for which we plan to have some slicks of our own; courtesy of our tyre supplier Kumho, who has been involved with the Mono project since day one.”
For the record
En route to winning the Supercar class, the Mono beat such proven machinery as a Lamborghini Gallardo, Nissan GT-R, Ferrari 458, Radical SR3 SL, Porsche Carrera, Ariel Atom V8 etc.
