Ocean Racing heads to GP2 Asia Series finale

10th March 2010

A new challenge in Bahrain, together with Formula 1

Ocean Racing Technology will take part in the final two races of the GP2 Asia Series at the Sakhir circuit in the Bahrain Kingdom this coming weekend, the Portuguese team continuing their preparations for the upcoming season of the GP2 Main Series that will get underway in May at the Barcelona track in Spain.

For Bahrain, Ocean Racing Technology will once again entrust their single-seaters to Fabio Leimer and Yelmer Buurman where the Swiss and Dutch duo will take on the role of completing previous work that has made it possible for the Portuguese team to occupy 5th place in the general classification. In particular they will need to show that the new technical direction taken at the same track two weeks ago was fruitful.

"The GP2 Asia Series is crucial for gathering experience in the car, both data and the team's work. These last two races will be a keystone and the end of a very important cycle for me," explains Fabio Leimer. "To race in the GP2 Series is a landmark for any driver and I want to show that both I and Ocean are up to the challenge. I think that after the Bahrain round we will be on the right path to have a good season in the GP2 Main Series."

After a year's absence from the category, Yelmer Buurman made a promising return to the GP2 Series the last weekend of February in Bahrain. The Dutchman now wants maximum benefit from his experience on the Sakhir circuit to finish his season on a high note. "I am looking forward to returning to Bahrain. The circuit will use a new version with an extra section which is said to be slower. The presence of Formula One will help rubber the line and the data we got two weeks ago will be decisive in securing a good result. The most important thing is to keep un the good work in order to improve the car's performance," said Yelmer Buurman.

The 13 teams of the GP2 Asia Series will discover some extreme climatic conditions in Bahrain with maximum temperatures expected to reach 32°C, which will reinforce the challenges exerted on both car and driver. The two races will be broadcasted on Eurosport 2 on Saturday at 4:30PM and Sunday at 8:45AM UK Time.
