Positive first test day with Vietoris and Leimer

11th November 2009

First test day of the week for Fat Burner Racing Engineering at the Paul Ricard Circuit where Swiss driver Fabio Leimer and German Christian Vietoris were at the wheel of the Spanish team's cars. Both drivers set very good times and ran at a competitive pace throughout the day, though Vietoris suffered a little glitch on his car's engine during the afternoon session.

After three days of testing at the Jerez track over a month ago, today it was back to action for Fat Burner Racing Engineering. Working on its preparations for the 2010 season, as well as evaluating drivers, the Spanish team enjoyed a positive day despite some problems on Christian Vietoris' engine, which hampered his progresses during the afternoon.

Both Leimer and Vietoris used the morning to adapt to the team and the French track where the German never ran before. He soon showed a very promising rhythm to end the morning session in third position. Fabio Leimer, on the other hand, set the sixth fastest time. After the midday break, the Fat Burner Racing Engineering team continued with its test program. Only several red flags interrupted Leimer's attempts to improve his best time of the day while Vietoris had to face a problem with his engine which jeopardized the good work he was doing. Fabio Leimer finished the afternoon session in an excellent second position, whereas Christian Vietoris had to settle for sixteenth.

The team will now analyze the data to find the problem on Vietoris engine. Though it is possible that the car he drove will need a new unit for tomorrow's session, when Spaniard Roldán Rodríguez and Frenchman Charles Pic will take over duties.

Fabio Leimer: It was a very good day. In the afternoon we worked a bit on the car to make it even better, while in the morning I still had to get used to the track. I was not expecting to be in second position today as I didn't feel such a big difference between new and used tyres, but I think this had to do with the track conditions. It's a pity there were several red flags at the end of the afternoon session as I think we could have improved even more. I am happy with the work of the engineers and mechanics, everything went fine and I am satisfied with today's test day.

Christian Vietoris: The day started really well. We finished the morning session in third position and I think we could have done even better. But as I have never driven at Paul Ricard before, I needed to first learn the track. In the afternoon the main objective was to improve my line. When we mounted the new tyres, we were not able to run anymore, but it was nevertheless a good test day.

Alfonso de Orleáns-Borbón, Team Principal: I am not happy with the troubles on Christian's car. Let's wait to see what it is. But when evaluating drivers, it makes it quite difficult to judge them if they cannot run. I am sure, based on his performance during the rest of the day, we would have seen him among the best of the day. As for Fabio, very good job; just what we expected from him. At the end of the day, I have to say that they are both very talented drivers, which doesn't make the decision an easy one.
