Productive last test day with Bird and D'Ambrosio
13th November 2009
Final test day of the 2009 season for the Fat Burner Racing Engineering Team at the Paul Ricard Circuit with drivers Sam Bird and Jérôme d'Ambrosio. The Englishman enjoyed a very positive test day with the Spanish Team to finish third on the time-sheets while the Belgian was eighth in the afternoon.
After suffering from engine problems during the two first test days, Fat Burner Racing Engineering had a very productive and trouble free final test day at the French track. Sam Bird and Jérôme d'Ambrosio took over duties to work on the team's test program towards the 2010 season while showing their skills at the wheel of the two red Dallara GP2 cars.
Sam Bird's program focused on finding the best set up possible. In the morning session, the car was not performing as he would have liked, but he managed to set very competitive times as team and driver got familiar with each other. In the afternoon, all his previous efforts payed off and he finished the test in third overall. Jérôme d'Ambrosio, on the other hand, did not manage to be at the top of the time sheets as he could not get the most of the new tyres. Nevertheless, the Belgian driver had a very fruitful day with the Spanish outfit and was very satisfied with this second outing with Fat Burner Racing Engineering.
Sam Bird: It's been an enjoyable day. I liked working with all the guys at Racing Engineering. We worked hard on the set up throughout the day and in the afternoon we landed up third after a difficult morning. Overall, I am pleased with the result.
Jérôme d'Ambrosio: Overall, the day was really good. We had a very good morning and set the time with used tyres. In the afternoon, we tested some different things, but didn't get what we expected on new tyres. I am happy with the day in general. Just like in Jerez it was nice to work with the guys and I think we can be satisfied with this test day.
Alfonso de Orleáns-Borbón, Team Principal: Very good. Sam has been very impressive. We worked in the right direction, although in the morning the car was not really what he wanted. He has been delivering stable results throughout these three days of testing and finished them off in a strong third position today. Jerome had a very productive test day with us today and although he was not on the top of the timing sheets in the afternoon, we know very well what would have been possible. Track temperature was very decisive during these last three days and not always playing to our favor. Nevertheless, we had six very good drivers in our cars and I am pleased with the performance of every single one of them.
