Rory Butcher suffers Porsche blow at Snetterton

Fifer Rory Butcher and his Celtic Speed team missed out on crucial Porsche Carrera Cup points when they were the innocent victims of a collision in the latest round at Snetterton.

The 25-year-old from Kirkcaldy entered the weekend third in the championship, behind Team Parker Racing's Sam Tordoff, after winning both races last time out at Croft.

But after storming through from ninth on the grid to finish fifth in the day's opener at Snetterton, Butcher's 911 GT3 Cup car was unceremoniously clattered by Tordoff's team-mate, Daniel Lloyd, when lying sixth.

"It wasn't clever," Butcher, No1 driver in Scotland's leading sportscar team, said afterwards.

"He'd been behind me most of the race and then, a couple of laps before the end of the race he hit the rear of my car heavily.

"Approaching the tight right-hander, he braked late and jinxed out to my right-hand side essentially to let me know he was there.

"But he was carrying far too much speed into the corner, lost control of the car and clattered heavily into the back right of my car."

The impact spun Butcher's Celtic Speed Porsche on to the grass and resulted in him eventually crossing the line a frustrated 12th, while Lloyd took sixth.

That though wasn't the end of the matter. Race stewards called both drivers to a meeting afterwards and penalised Lloyd for causing the accident.

The young Englishman was relegated to 12th, promoting Butcher to 11th.

"He apologised to me afterwards, but that didn't help restore the championship points I lost in my bid to catch Tordoff for second in the title race," Butcher continued.

"Now though we're turning our heads to the next double-header at my home circuit, Knockhill, on August 25/26," the Scot, now fourth in the title race, continued.

"It's going to be another tough weekend, but hopefully we can get back to finishing on the podium and giving all my supporters something to cheer."
