Samsung Honda withdraw from Silverstone 200
12th June 2012
The Samsung Honda team has regrettably reached the decision to withdraw from this weekend’s (15-17 June) Silverstone 200, MotoGP support race. A non-British Superbike Championship points scoring event.
The delay in the arrival of revised parts to test has impacted on the testing schedule and therefore the decision has been reached to withdraw from this weekend’s race. Coupled with that Michael Laverty has only just returned from stand-in duty for the Honda TT Legends, scoring a podium finish at the 8-Hours of Doha, Qatar – and with team-mate Jon Kirkham returning to full fitness after his huge crash at Oulton Park a couple of weeks ago; the decision has also been made with the mind-set to allow both riders the maximum time for recovery before the next round of the British Superbike Championship at Knockhill (22-24 June).
Havier Beltran, Team Manager: “It is disappointing that we have had to make the decision to withdraw from this weekend’s Silverstone 200 but we will not be in a position to maximise the track time available due to several racing components not being ready in time. We also have to take into consideration rider wellbeing and our priority is the British Superbike Championship, with our goal to have both riders fresh and ready to go for wins at the next round at Knockhill, and to both secure top-six positioning before the championship reaches the showdown phase.
