Every driver who wins a round of the 2012 Formula Kart Stars Junior Rotax Championship will receive a one on one tuition session at the ‘Home of British Motorsport’ in a Ginetta G40 race car thanks to a new prize on offer from the Silverstone Motorsport Academy.
With the list of drivers who have graduated from the Formula One Management backed Championship into the world of car racing growing every year the Silverstone Motorsport Academy will help give up to 12 current FKS Junior Max competitors a first hand insight into their potential future racing careers on the same circuit that hosts the British Grand Prix.
“Silverstone Motorsport Academy is delighted to support Formula Kart Stars,” says Silverstone’s Daniel Whittemore. “Karting plays a vital role in the generation of future British champions and we hope that some of those future championship will be among the recipients of this prize, which will help them make a smooth transition into racing cars.”
The Ginetta G40 has proved itself to be a popular choice of vehicle for aspiring car racers and has formed the backbone for the Junior Ginetta Championship that forms part of the British Touring Car Championship support package. Numerous Formula Kart Stars drivers have made their first steps into car racing in a Ginetta G40 with FKS ‘Old Boys’ Charlie Robertson and Sennan Fielding among the pacesetters in this year’s Junior Championship.
The prize winners will each receive a one to one coaching session at Silverstone in a full race spec G40 with one of the Silverstone Motorsport Academy instructors and Formula Kart Stars Championship Director Carolynn Hoy is confident that the prize winners will benefit greatly from the experience.
“This new prize from the Silverstone Motorsport Academy is a huge asset to our championship at a time when many of our Junior drivers are considering the next step of their careers,” says Hoy.
“Some of the prize winners may have already looked at car racing when they become Senior drivers and therefore this prize will help give them a head start but I’m also aware that other winners may not be in a position to move out of karting and so this prize will give them possibly their only opportunity to driving a full blooded racing car around one of the most famous race circuits in the whole world.”
