GREAT Britain boss Neil Middleditch has named his starting line-up for next month’s FIM Monster Energy Speedway World Cup.
Middleditch will lead his side into action against Australia, Czech Republic and Germany at King’s Lynn’s Norfolk Arena on Monday, July 9.
He’s named GP star Chris Harris, Coventry colleague Scott Nicholls, Wolverhampton’s Tai Woffinden and Birmingham skipper Danny King.
Nicholls is hoping to be back racing on June 28 after recovering from a broken collarbone and Woffinden has an appointment with a specialist next Tuesday with the aim of returning to the saddle after a broken scaphoid.
Said Middleditch: “I’ve spoken to all the boys and they’re well and truly up for it. Scotty and Tai assure me they are determined to be back on a bike as soon as possible and both feel they will be fit and ready to go for the meeting at King’s Lynn.
“Danny had a good meeting at Berwick in the GP qualifier last weekend and has been scoring well so far this season. He was thrilled to bits when I called him with the news.
“The boys who have missed out totally understand and accept my selection and they are right behind the team. We’ll give it a real good go at King’s Lynn.”
The winners of the meeting in Norfolk will head straight through to the final in Malilla, Sweden, the following Saturday and the second and third placed teams go to the race-off, also in Malilla, on the Thursday.
SATURDAY’S re-scheduled National League Fours at Stoke will begin with the Bronze Helmet match race between Richie Worrall and Tom Perry.
The race was already scheduled for June 23 as the Potters were to stage a league match against Dudley before the switch of dates due to the Fours.
Stoke promoter Dave Tattum said: “Richie and Tom had already been drawn against each other for the Bronze Helmet, which was to take place after the league match between Stoke and Dudley and it makes sense since both riders are here.
“It now means supporters will get to see 25 heats of speedway which I have no doubt will be superb with all eight clubs taking part in the event. We also now have two of the top riders in the National League in Richie and Tom, who are both doing extremely well in the Premier League, going to race-off.”
SWINDON moved up to second place in the Elite League table with a convincing 53-36 win at Lakeside on Monday.
The scores were tied at 27-27 after Heat 9 but the Robins then pulled clear with a rejuvenated Troy Batchelor dropping just one point – although the Hammers suffered two costly engine failures for Peter Karlsson.
Swindon boss Alun Rossiter said: “I’m really pleased and proud of my riders tonight, it’s a great result for us.
“It was a great team effort but I must mention Batch who finally got going tonight, he was back to the rider we know he is.”
INJURY-hit Wolverhampton battled back from behind to secure all three points from a bruising battle against Belle Vue at Monmore Green.
The home side started with six riders but finished with just four as both Pontus Aspgren and Ty Proctor had to pull out after crashes, but their reserves scored 21 (paid 25) between them.
Recent Belle Vue signing Artur Mroczka continued his impressive start for the club with 16+1 but the Aces were left with nothing from a 51-42 defeat, despite leading with five heats to go.
Wolves skipper Freddie Lindgren said: “I think the reserves were the key, Ricky Wells was superb and Adam Roynon did a great job for us as a guest.”
