TV presenter Julia Bradbury joins special star studded Celebrity Challenge at Silverstone Classic
10th July 2012
Television presenter Julia Bradbury is the latest to join the special star-studded Celebrity Challenge motor race being staged later this month at the Silverstone Classic powered by the AA (20-22 July).
The co-host of the BBCs hugely popular Countryfile programme has just passed her official ARDS racing driver test and now is ready to line-up on the Silverstone grid alongside a host of famous faces from film, showbiz, sport, television and music.
As a new mother I won't be taking any crazy risks, but I'll certainly be giving it my all, she said. I'll be racing my mate Jay Kay who's a great driver he also has a garage full of cars to practice with so I might just follow in his slip stream and hope for the best!"
Jamiroquais front man isnt the only rival in Bradburys sights. Others competing include award-winning chef Heston Blumenthal, Hollywood actor Sir Patrick Stewart, Comedy Dave Vitty from Radio 1, Sky Sports presenter Vicky Gomersall, legendary rocker Brian Johnson from AC/DC, Strictly Come Dancings Brendan Cole plus Wimbledon TV presenter Andrew Castle. All will be racing around the famous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit in a field of lightweight, competition prepared Morgans capable of topping 130mph.
Having recently been face to face with wild black bears in Minnesota for Planet Earth Live on BBC1, chasing basking sharks off the coast of the Isle of Man and rock climbing in Snowdonia, Bradbury clearly has a spirit for adventure. However, she has a very personal reason for her latest on-track escapade, which is in aid of the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research as well as the Birmingham Childrens Hospital and the RPJ Crohns Foundation.
"My mother had bowel cancer last year and has just been given the all-clear so it is a cause very close to our hearts as a family. It is a treatable cancer if caught early so well worth shouting about, she explained. "I'm doing this race for my Mum and for women!
The Celebrity Challenge takes place on Saturday 21 July as part of the worlds biggest classic motor racing festival. Qualifying takes place at 15:50 in the afternoon, followed by a 20 minute race at 18:25 in the evening.
Adult tickets for 2012s Silverstone Classic powered by the AA (20-22 July) cost from as little as 35 (plus booking fee) and special two- and three-day weekend tickets are also available with savings of up to 20 per cent if purchased in advance. Full details are available via the events official silverstoneclassic.com website.
