23rd May 2012
The International GT Open is heading to the legendary Nürburgring for what is anticipated to be an exciting second round of the season, with the Ferraris seeking revenge on German soil, after the double win of Porsche in the season-opener at Portimão. Championship leaders Marco Holzer and Nick Tandy will be racing at home, as Manthey Racing is based in the area.
But there will be many more points of interest in this round and in this racing weekend’s rich program, comprising among other the European F3 Open and the FIA Formula Two.
Today GT Sport released the official entry list, which includes 26 cars. The latest top addition is the Mercedes SLS AMG of stalwart German GT team Seyffarth Motorsport, which will be driven by Jan Seyffarth and Kenneth Heyer. It will join the new and much-awaited Maserati Granturismo MC3 of Swiss Team (for Pier Guidi – Gardel), while two other key entrants, such as the Deboeuf Porsche 911 R of Thomas Gruber-Marco Seefried and the McLaren MP4-12C of the new Lapidus Racing entrusted to Klaas Hummel and Adam Christodoulou will start their 2012 campaign at this occasion.
With regard to line-ups, two main changes have to be noted: with Toni Vilander busy in the US, it will be Italiuan star “Gimmi” Bruni pairing with Federico Leo at the wheel of the top AF Corse Ferrari 458 GT2, while Gianni Giudici is retaking driving duties alonside Johnny Mowlem at the wheel of the Lotus Evora.
With the confirmation of the agreement with German TV Channel Sport 1/Sport 1+ as from this round, the TV coverage of the International GT Open is further enhanced.
