Trident GP2 Sprint review
9th July 2012
Trident Racing's GP2 Series racing weekend at Silverstone was completed today with the running of Race 2 at the historical British venue. Julian Leal suffered from the results of spin that prevented him from getting close to the top-10. After changing tires, he set the fastest lap of the race, displaying great base speed and ending up his day in 17th.
Race 2 for Stphane Richelmi proved much shorter as he was involved in an early incident. After the contact, he was forced to park his car for good and retire. It's been a pretty unlucky weekend for Trident Racing, but there will be plenty of chances to recover. The GP2 Series will be back on-track in two weeks at Hockenheim for round 8 of 12.
Stphane Richelmi, DNF.
We started with the softer slick compound even though the track was still damp, and after the start, I lost a couple of spots by putting two wheels on a wet patch. The conditions were clearly ok for slicks though. During the first lap, when we arrived at the last chicane, I braked and saw Trummer on my inside. I found myself in the middle of him and Coletti, and at that point I had nowhere to go. Trummer left me no space for turning in and I ended up touching Coletti. There's nothing more to say other than I'm disappointed with how my race ended after just a few corners.
Julian Leal, 17.
I'm a little disappointed because in the first few laps I had found a really good chemistry with the car. Unfortunately, I ended up spinning during the mid part of the race and I ended up at the back of the pack. When I got back going there was a big vibration and I had to make my way into the pits for some fresher tires. Once back on-track we were the fastest, but the time lost early was too much to recover.
