Will Bratt Day Two Of Paul Ricard GP2 Test
12th November 2009
Reigning Euroseries 3000 Champion Will Bratt produced an outstanding performance during official GP2 Series testing at Paul Ricard in France yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, 11th November, to end the outing fourth fastest on combined times – a mere 10th of a second shy of the best lap of the day.
Driving for his regular GP2 Asia Series team, Party Poker Racing.com Scuderia Coloni, the British star posted a quickest lap of 1m12.465 seconds at the Le Castellet track during the second of today’s two sessions to conclude the run just 0.049 seconds outside Luiz Razia’s pace-setting time.
Taking into account the times from the morning session too, in which Banbury-based Will wasn’t able to extract the best grip and performance from his tyres after pushing a little too hard, too soon, he ended the day only a 10th of a second away from James Jakes’ fastest lap of all.
Reflecting on the run, 21-year-old Will said: “Everything went well this afternoon, to end the day inside the top four was good – that’s where we expect to be and where we know we should be. We made a few small adjustments to the car after the morning session, eliminated a bit of under-steer, and I was able to get the most from the tyres. It’s incredibly competitive so we’re very pleased.”
Switching from his regular Party Poker Racing.com backed GP2 Asia car to one of the Scuderia Coloni team’s main series Renault-powered Dallaras for this week’s officially timed test at Paul Ricard, Will ended the opening day on Tuesday, 10th November, with the 12th fastest time of 1m13.303 seconds.
Completing fewer laps than most, the GP2 rookie slipped from ninth place during the closing stages, as he wasn’t on track for the final 20 minutes, but still finished day one within a second of the pace.
Will added: “Hopefully we can be competitive again on the final day of testing tomorrow. It’ll be tough as there are some very fast, experienced drivers but we know what we’re capable of. If we get everything right, as we did this afternoon, we should be quick.”
The third and final day of official GP2 Series testing – the last outing for the cars this year – will take place at Paul Ricard HTTT today, Thursday, 12th November.
