Yokohama official tyres for Macau GP
16th November 2007
The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd., announces that it will supply the official tires for the 54th Macau Grand Prix, to be held from November 15 (Thursday) through 18 (Sunday) in Macau (China). Yokohama Rubber has supplied the official tires to the race for 25 years in a row, starting in
1983.
This year, Yokohama Rubber is supporting the F3 Grand Prix, to which it has supplied tires for 25 years, and the final race of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), for which it has served as the one-make tire supplier since last season, and other races.
First held in 1954, the Macau Grand Prix is the oldest motor race in Asia. Running through the streets of Macau, the overall event comprises the F3 Grand Prix, the final WTCC race (concurrently held since the 2005 season), the Motorcycle Grand Prix and others. The F3 Grand Prix is particularly important as it became an international F3 race in 1983, when Yokohama Rubber started supplying official tires. Aryton Senna was the first champion. Since then, it has been known as the F3 race that decides the world's No. 1 - a gathering of the top F3 racers in the world. Many F1 drivers, including Michael Schum! acher, David Coulthart and Takuma Sato, have won at Macau. This year, 31 cars will compete in the F3 Grand Prix.
At the WTCC, to which Yokohama Rubber has supplied tires for two consecutive years, starting in 2006, the performance of "ADVAN" racing tires has been highly evaluated by FIA (Federation Internationale de l'Automobile), and it has been decided that the company will supply tires for the 2008 and 2009 seasons as well.
